Heroes & Villains: Which Do U Prefer?

Blogfest Creators: Jackie & Dani

Whether you're a reader, writer, or watcher, everyone loves a good VILLAIN. Of course, you have to have a fantastic HERO to balance that out in any story.

Today, I'm joining in, with a list of others, to celebrate those villains and heroes who've touched our hearts or haunted our nightmares.

My VILLAINS:

Wade played by Kevin Bacon in The River Wild (1994) This guy completely freaked me out.

Ryan Weaver played by Ray Liotta in Turbulence (1997) - He did such an awesome job in this part. He was so creepy....

James Costa played by Ethan Hawke in Taking Lives (2004) - Seriously, this character stayed with me for days, maybe even weeks. He was everybody's brother, sister, mother, father, boyfriend, etc... Anyone could  have been him. He could have been anyone. I absolutely LOVED the ending of this film.

My Heroes or in my case, HEROINES:

Hermoine Granger of the eternally popular Harry Potter series - for an tween/teen girl, she is one of the strongest female characters I've ever encountered. She's complex, deep, and very tangible.

Katniss Evergreen of The Hunger Games - I just had to choose her. She made the ultimate sacrifice for a family member, putting herself in harms way. The experience pushed her, made her discover herself and what she was capable of. Multi-facaded character!

Lena Duchannes of the Beautiful Creatures series - Once again, we have a female lead who is less than whole but makes more of her situation than most would have. She displays ultimate courage, when necessary, and a willingness to change, grow, and accept new ideas and thoughts in her world. I'd say she's a leader and revolutionist in every way.

Do you have a VILLAIN or HERO that stuck with you long after you read the last page of the book or finished watching the movie?

  1. Loved that you picked Hermoine. I haven't seen Beautiful Creatures yet, but want to when it comes out on DVD.

  3. Kevin Bacon knows how to play a creepy character very well!

  4. River wild! I remember that movie! I can say yes for both. Drizzt and Artemis from the R.A. Salvatore novels.

  5. I just saw "Beautiful Creatures" the other night, for the first time and have to agree, Lena is a good Hero choice.

Bacon's character from "The River Wild" (which I remember seeing in the theater) was, also, another good one. Very creepy...

  6. The killer (not Hanibal - tho he was quite the villain, too) in Silence of the Lambs was a good villain, maybe more so because he had some feelings left for others; they were just buried deep. Plus there was no malice toward his victims; it was all about what he wanted/needed.

Sarah Connor in Terminator2, played by Linda Hamilton, has been through a lot and she isn't the cute little waitress she used to be. She's kick-ass angry and I loved her. Or, how about Gina Davis' character in Long Kiss Goodnight. She was pretty tough in that.

    1. Yeah, I thought of Hannibal and also that guy from The House on the Left. But for me, both of those were way-over-the-top creepy; plus, the subject matter from one of the scenes from THotL bothered me way too much.

Sarah Connor is the BOMB!! You are right.

  7. I'm afraid I haven't seen any of the movies for your villains, but I will take your word for them, because I know Kevin Bacon can play great villains :)

I've always had a soft spot for Hermione, not only a loyal, brave friend to Harry, but an intelligent young woman as well.

One villain who has stuck with me long after I watched him in the movie(s) is Loki from Thor and The Avengers. He is so broken and completely nuts in The Avengers, but he has a really convincing back story from Thor as well, because you can see how he evolved into the destructive force that he became.

  10. I love the stories of the heroes of ancient Indian mythohistory. While they're larger than life, they're also human and not always perfect. Over ten years after being introduced to the story of Krishna and his friends the Pandava brothers, I still remember them in vivid detail.

  11. Kevin Bacon is one of those actors who can play a great hero, but an even better villain. He creeped me out in that movie! Good choice.

Love Hermione and Katniss for your hero choices. I haven't read or watched Beautiful Creatures yet.

Thanks for joining the blogfest! ^_^

  12. My favorite villain would be the Joker from Batman (any of the movies). The guy in general just scares the crap out of me.
I don't know about my favorite hero though. I love Hermoine, but I'm also a big Spiderman fan *sheepish grin*

  13. Love Hermione and Katniss as your heroes. I would add Batman as one of my favorite heroes. As for villains, I'd have to put Lord Voldemort in there. :)

  14. Katniss is a great pick for a hero!!! I also like Buffy, hehehe. Any strong women.

  15. I'm not familiar with all of these. I need to watch more movies.

I didn't know about this blogfest, but in my head I'm coming up with my list.

  16. I have to admit I haven't seen any of your choices of villain, but I love Kevin Bacon and Ray Liotta, so they must be superb :D. It's great to see Hermione on someone's list as well - such a great character.

  18. Go Heroines!!!! Love Hermione and Katniss! I haven't seen Beautiful Creatures, but heroines who are willing to make tough choices and save the day are some of my favorites.

  19. I love Kevin Bacon and wish we could see in many more roles--hero OR villain. You've picked some great heroines, too.

I've left you something at The Write Game. Hope you'll stop by and pick it up. :-)

  20. I've been meaning to read the Beautiful Creatures series for AGES, and now that you've listed Lena among your favorites, I think I'm going to have to bump it to the top of my TBR list. Awesome.

  21. Hooray for female heroes! The villains you list are more obscure than most I've seen show up in this fest -- which makes them extra cool.

    1. Thanks, Nicki! I tried to choose villains that were different, or maybe forgotten.

AND yes to those female heroines!!!
