Car Wash FEAR

My A to Z Challenge.
What I'm doing: OFF the CUFF ~ Basically, I'll be keeping posts short and writing about whatever moves me~themes, inspirations, causes, and silliness. I'll stick to my normal posting of Mondays & Wednesdays (possibly an occasional other day), highlighting the appropriate letter for said day. But I will visit blogs throughout the week. I am looking forward to reading your words!

Fear is a word that can paralyze, demoralize, and rob us of motivation to work, live, and play. But today, I'm going to keep it light and share with you one of my quirky fears - CAR WASHES.

I don't know if it's being trapped in a car stuck in neutral that's being covered in suds or those material wipey-things that slink up the windshield, but I am terrified of car washes. I literally shake when my husband decides to spontaneously pull into one of these places.

I mean, just look at these images. Going in there would be like being the girl in a horror movie who hears shrills and raw splattering on the walls just ahead of her but still goes down the hallway to peek

And what the heck is this one? With my luck, the mechanical stuff would come to life like in that Stephen King movie where all the appliances kill the people. Nope. I'm good.

  1. Dogs don't seem to like going through a car wash, Sheri.
My only fear, which is really a recurring dream/nightmare, is being stranded in the middle of an ocean, but I don't think this would be defined as silly by anyone.
    Happy A-Zing!

  2. So glad I'm not alone in not liking those kind of car washes. Luckily we have one of the newer kinds close to my house that's bigger and you just drive in and sit there while the machines move around the car. I can handle that one.

  3. Hi Sheri ... I'm not that keen in going into car washes ... but needs must occasionally - the ones I use aren't that closed in I'm pleased to say ...

So your fear I can understand ... but Fanny's thought - would absolutely terrify me! Cheers Hilary

  4. I can understand your fear, Sheri. The car wash in the pictures is surely claustrophobic. I have fear of lizards and rats... I am sure with my shrieks, I must have given mini heart attacks to a lot of these creatures! :D

  5. Fear--what a great word for this challenge! My four-year-old fears car washes. I fear spiders, but most people do not think arachnophobia is silly;-)

  6. I have to chuckle because my mom-in-law is deathly afraid of car washes...I actually like them...

  7. I used to find car washes entertaining as a kid. I understand quirky fears though. My sister is afraid of oompa loompas.

  8. Only all the time. And they may be right. I am somewhat silly, but I entertain myself that way. As to those machines, anything with gears is definitely out to get me.

  9. I hope your car never gets stuck in one of those!

    1. Honestly, you had to say that. EEEK! I would totally wig! (Um, I just aged myself by using that word, didn't I?)

  10. I f*cking LOVE this blog post. Yeah, even now, sometimes car washes freak me out if I let my mind focus too much on one when I'm in one. My kids used to just stare bugged eyed when we'd go through one. They were scared too. LOL!

I love this post so much, I'm going to share it on my Facebook page and my Twitter page!

  11. Parking garages. Not to the point that I shake, but enough that I've got a creepy kind of get-me-out feeling the whole time I'm in there. And, yes, this despite living for years in big cities and using them constantly. The feeling doesn't go away, I just get better at suppressing it. Interestingly, I'm not afraid of caves, though I don't like the idea of being trapped in one!

Love the car wash fear--I find them fascinating, but I also am often drawn to things I'm mildly afraid of. :D

  12. LOL! We don't need car washes in Florida. Just leave your vehicle outside during the afternoon deluge (monsoon). =)

My husband was asking me what my greatest fear was last night, and admittedly, it took some thinking. I'm not afraid of much. I did learn recently that I'm afraid of an open ocean with no sign of land around. Is that crazy? When cruising, my hubby always wants to go out and look at the vast ocean in the middle of the night. As long as I'm not THINKING about what I'm seeing, I'm fine, but the moment I start, I drag him back inside.

    1. Ooh, open ocean ... unless I'm on a gigantic cruise ship, I'm thinking I'd be a bit fearful of that too!

  13. Just think of what Stephen King would write if he shared this fear. Or even worse - a mad, sentient car wash with a car full of clowns!

    1. OMGosh! You totally just flipped me out. Other than sp ... iders (don't even like to say it), the only thing that truly freaks me out are clowns! I've never been same since I saw Poltergeist when I was like, I don't know, ten years old.

  14. Great blog! I have a ridiculous fear of talking intelligently to people I look up to - mentors, teachers, VIP's. I'm often in situations where they are right there, ready to carry on a conversation with me and I totally freeze up and end up saying something totally stupid! - UGH!

  15. My kids used to be terrified of going through the car wash when they were 18 months old or so. We thought it was cute they way they screamed and lashed about in their car seats.

  16. Claustrophobic! I hate car washes and elevators...LOL,

  17. I'm still afraid of the dark. :) And car washes definitely make me nervous.

    1. LOL

I'm okay with the dark as long as it's under my eyelids while I sleep. Geez, I think I'm afraid of more things than I thought.

  18. Ha! You made me laugh but having read a few SK novels myself I can see how they could turn evil. Spiders freak me out. There's a story behind that but lets not go there...

  19. We all have our fears. Car washes are rather noisy and confining. I'd hate to think of any of those car wash parts coming to life -_-

  23. Lol! Yes, I also fear the car wash after I saw a movie where the heroine was attacked in there!

  24. Ha! Yes, I'm scared of car washes, too. But strangely fascinated by them at the same time. I guess that's the way it is with a lot of fears.

Hope you’re having fun with the A to Z challenge,

  25. Some of my kids have been deathly afraid of the car wash, but others love it. I'm not afraid to go IN the car wash, but it scares me to be the one to drive the car inside. Lol. Don't know why!

I can't think of any weird fears I have...
