MMGM~THE GREAT TIME LOCK DISASTER by C.Lee McKenzie

A slight change-of-direction with my middle grade post today, but it's still part of Shannon Messenger's MMGM genius plan to give middle grade reads their just due! Click HERE for the other participants.

I'm handing over Writer's Alley today to a wonderful kidlit author and friend, C.Lee McKenzie. She's written all sorts of books for children, from compelling young adult subjects to adventurous middle grade tales. Besides reading and writing, she's also an avid hiker and enjoys the practice of yoga. (You know, I really should try yoga. But every time I hear the word it makes me think of yogurt, which only makes me hungry.) Any hoot, take it away C.Lee!

Hi everyone! Looks like we're going to play a little game. Sheri’s given me a chance to come up withSeven Sneaky Secrets, so here they are. Fill in the blanks and a free ebook of either Alligators Overhead or its sequel, The Great Time Lock Disaster is yours. But first, here's a few clues to help you along.

Blurb: Becoming a wizard is hard work. For Pete Riley it’s almost impossible. He tries to follow the rules, but he’s impatient, and being impatient only leads to trouble.

Big trouble.

He messes with a time spell when he shouldn’t, and he and his bookish friend, Weasel, are swept into Victorian England.

No You Tube, no smoothies, no Manga. Not ever again. Not unless Pete figures out how to reverse his bad spell and free Weasel and him from the past. He has until the next full moon. . .only days away.

Excerpt: Here’s the moment Pete and Weasel pop out of this century and land in 1837 England.
Pete turned in a circle, shivering and trying to make sense of what he was seeing. It wasn’t Weasel’s front yard. He was sure of that, unless Weasel’s mom and dad had turned their lawn into a graveyard.
Headstones, some tall, some short, some sinking into the earth and tilting every which way spread out around him.
“Weasel,” Pete called, his voice high and panicked. “Where are you?”
Weasel’s arm shot up from the tall grass between two graves. “Right. Here.”

Now you're equip to fill in the blanks and leave your answers for a chance to win!

3.5 secrets about the author:

1) I love to river raft and survived the Class IV American River Tunnel Shoot even after my guide “left” the boat!

2) I chose to live in a rural mountain area so I wouldn’t have to have curtains or shades. I have claustrophobia +

3) I iron my ________________(Fill in the blank. Some people who follow me know the answer to this.)

3.5 secrets about The Great Time Lock Disaster.

1) This is the second adventure for Pete and Weasel, but the first one that takes them out of their own time and into Victorian England.

2) The ticking clock plays a big part in this story, and I set that up in the first line: “One minute the clock was tick-tocking on the mantel and the next it was a smoldering mess.”

3) Cenozo, the head of the alligator tribe, is a main character in Alligators Overhead, but he’s minor in this second book. His name comes from________________(Fill in the blank.)

This was great fun, C.Lee! Thanks so much for spending time with us. And thanks to all of YOU for participating. Winner will be announced next Wednesday! And here's Alligators Overhead, so you can check it out, too!

  1. I follow you but I don't know! Iron your underwear?
I'd like a rural home because I think said underwear is overrated....

    1. Well, maybe I should consider this. Let me think on it.

  3. I'm going with iron your underwear. And Cenozo's name comes from the fact alligators are old critters from an era with that name, Cenozoic. (Funny how I've retained that odd piece of trivia!)

    2. Very cool you retained that info. Such a neat word!

    1. Unfortunately no. The raft folded in half. He flew out the back. I held on. I did lose my paddle, but it caught up with us after the rapid. Very exciting.

  5. An iron is that big heavy metal triangular thing that heats up, right? I can't imagine what you'd iron with it willingly, because I try to avoid turning that thing on at all costs!

    1. Ahem. Here's a news flash. They don't make them out of iron anymore. :-)

    2. #HIGHFIVE!!! I gave up ironing years ago. I just toss the clothes back into the dryer, hoping they iron themselves.

  6. I seriously need to get around the reading these two books. There's so many books waiting for me that it's not even funny.

So many said you iron your underwear so I'll try something different...your pajamas?

  8. I, too, don't know the answer. Maybe because the mention of ironing gives me the shivers. I'll hazard a guess that you iron your jeans.

  9. I don't know either, but I'm going to guess that you iron your jeans! And Cenozo . . . . hmmm, I'm going to guess it's a mix of names of people you know. Just because. :) (And for some reason it only lets me post as Unknown. But this is Janet Johnson.)

    1. But I know you! Therefore, you are not unknown. And thanks for the guesses!

  12. I love the idea that the boys go into the past - and especially that they end up in a cemetery! That's so cool! You'll have to forgive me, but I'm drawing a complete blank on your blanks! LOL! Have a great week, Lee and Sheri! :)
