As I've mentioned a few times before, as a junior high and high school student I was a MAJOR movie buff. I loved exploring the facets of a film, taking it apart, and seeing if it could be put back together another way to give an altered view. Of course, I'm speaking figuratively. I took about the story, not the physical movie, scenes and such. I'm a writer, not a film editor.
But there were always those films that struck me so deeply I could never pull them apart, because it seemed like a violation. My list for this TOP TEN MOVIE Blogfest was so huge when I began to write it out that I added an additional list of films I just had to mention.
So here goes. Movies that influenced my life (on whatever level) during whatever period ... You can try to guess what age I was at when I felt moved by each film. LOL
When Victor Geddes (Campbell Scott) discovers that he is suffering from leukemia, his wealthy family hires pretty, young Hillary O'Neil (Julia Roberts) to help nurse him through his chemotherapy treatment. As the two struggle through the debilitating effects of Victor's treatment, they fall in love and attempt to make the most of their time together.
When a Jewish prince is betrayed and sent into slavery by a Roman friend, he regains his freedom and comes back for revenge.
After being killed during a botched mugging, a man's love for his partner enables him to remain on earth as a ghost.
American classic in which a manipulative woman and a roguish man carry on a turbulent love affair in the American south during the Civil War and Reconstruction.
Epic tale of three brothers and their father living in the remote wilderness of 1900s USA and how their lives are affected by nature, history, war, and love.
Film version of the musical stage play, presenting the last few weeks of Christ's life, told in an anachronistic manner.
A computer hacker learns from mysterious rebels about the true nature of his reality and his role in the war against its controllers.
A fisherman, a smuggler, and a syndicate of businessmen match wits over the possession of a priceless diamond.
A vampire tells his epic life story: love, betrayal, loneliness, and hunger.
Aurora and Emma are mother and daughter who march to different drummers. Beginning with Emma's marriage, Aurora shows how difficult and loving she can be. The movie covers several years of their lives as each finds different reasons to go on living and find joy. Aurora's interludes with Garrett Breedlove, retired astronaut and next door neighbor are quite striking. In the end, different people show their love in very different ways.
More Awesomes: The Breakfast Club, Lord of the Rings Trilogy, The Notebook, Immortals, Gladiator, Law Abiding Citizen, Iron Eagle, Pride & Prejudice, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Some Kind of Wonderful, Rain Man, The Secret of Nimh, Black Hawk Down, The Neverending Story, Underworld (love them!), The Ten Commandments, Dirty Dancing, Wuthering Heights.

Legends of the Fall... fantastic journey. The Matrix... fantastic journey. Interview... is one of my favorite vampire films... I do think Cruise was right for the part.

Howlin' Wolf
Yeah, I think you're correct about Cruise. I was leery about it back then.
DeleteThanks so much for stopping by!
Legends of the Fall and Blood Diamond would be on repeat in my house. Love the actors in those two - more like drool-fest! lol
ReplyDeleteGreat list! I'm so glad to see The Matrix made your top 10. It's truly a revolutionary sci-fi flick.
ReplyDeleteLoved seeing your choices. Tears of Endearment and Interview with a Vampire were awesome.
ReplyDeleteHERE ME NOW. THIS PLACE IS CURSED. AND YES, YOUR MASTER IS THE DEVIL! Loved it. :)
ReplyDeleteLOVE the Matrix! And as a fan of vampires, Interview with a Vampire has a special place in my heart.
ReplyDeleteOh, GwtW was on my list, too. And I love Ghost and Blood Diamonds. Great list!
ReplyDeleteI've seen Ghost, The Matrix and Gone With The Wind. I don't think I've seen the rest though.
ReplyDelete@Dani - Haha! I hear you there. *runs to snatch a face cloth*
ReplyDelete@George - I completely agree! I'm not a huge Sci-Fi fan, but I just loved that flick. Probably watched it 100 times.
@Natalie - Terms... sniffle. I don't think I ever got over that one.
Great list!I loved Ghost. Great choice.

Ahhh...so hard to pick just ten, isn't it? Interestingly, my favorite movies are never ones based on books because nothing can top the book (for me, I realize I might be in the minority on this).
ReplyDeleteThe Matrix (trilogy) is definitely one of my faves and something I can watch over and over and still enjoy. Who cares if Keanu Reeves can't act? He kicks butt and that's what counts!
ReplyDeleteYou have eclectic taste in movies. Good choices.

I never understood the allure of DiCaprio until I saw Blood Diamond. Fell in love with him in that! Ghost also rocked.
ReplyDeleteYou win for most tear jerkers on a single list! All good movies though.
ReplyDeleteGreat list! Legends of the Fall made mine too and woot woot! for Ben Hur and Blood Diamond. I didn't get enough classics or enough Leo on my list, though I seriously considered The Ten Commandments. I've never actually watched Dying Young. I wanted to when it came out but I was too young, and I've just never gotten around to it. Maybe I'll have to now. :D Great list! So many good ones!
ReplyDeleteI cut The Ten Commandments from my top ten, sticking with Ben Hur instead. I really loved them both, all those older biblical classics, really.
DeleteYou MUST watch Dying Young. Seriously. Just such a great story and structure to it. But make sure to have tissues handy. :)
Some nice picks on this list, to be sure!
ReplyDeleteI've seen all of these, but my favorite is definitely INTERVIEW WITH A VAMPIRE from your list. *sigh* Good memories. --And that's the first mention of Ghost. Yikes. We must be getting old if that one's off the radars. =)
ReplyDeleteYou picked two of my favorites, Sheri. I loved Ghost and Matrix!
ReplyDeleteWhile our lists come no where close to matching, I can say that these are all really great movies! Even your extra list of awesomes=)
ReplyDeleteThanks so much! It's interesting to see our tastes and where we all stand on films and stories. :)
DeleteThe Matrix is an instant classic! Awesome list.
ReplyDeleteDead Poets Society should totally be on here. That movie gets me every time!
ReplyDeleteCan you believe that is one movie I have NOT seen!! I've got to, now.
DeleteMarcy - Haha...and he has a mom who hangs out with rockers. Nice....
ReplyDeleteM.J. - Yeah, those three are classics and get me every time. I honestly think I know all three by heart. Thanks for stopping by!
Aw...thank you, Rhonda! And thanks for stopping by. Love seeing new faces. :)
Ah, I LOVE Legends of the Fall - such a great movie. And Gone With The Wind - excellent choice!
ReplyDeleteWhat a romantic list! I'm a huge Anne Rice fan. Thought I'd hate Interview with the Vampire but ended up thinking it was pretty terrific. Great to see it listed here.
ReplyDelete~VR Barkowski
It's one of my ultimate favorites!! I wasn't sure how Cruise would do, but he did rather well. LOL
DeleteGone with the wind is an everlasting fascination for me :). Scarlett and Rhett are two astonishing characters :)>
ReplyDeleteI couldn't agree with you more!
DeleteOh, I'm loving your list! Gone With The Wind made my list too. No matter how many times I've watched it, whenever it comes on tv, Rhett just sucks me in and convinces me to watch it again, lol.
ReplyDeleteYou have quite the mix! I'm assuming you were REALLY young for Ben Hur.
ReplyDeleteThanks for participating in my blogfest!
Haha! Yeah, I'm sure I wasn't even thought of when it was being made. LOL
DeleteI used to watch it with my grandparents and then my dad - biblical stuff, you know.
Ghosts and Matrix are two of my faves. Ben Hur was a very macho movie (gladiator, roaring chariots, and much posturing. A classic.)
ReplyDeleteGreat list! I love the Matrix and Dying YOung. :D

Legends of the Fall was on my list until the very last cut! Love that film...and its music! I like your other choices as well. :)
ReplyDeleteI love how you didn't pick the same kind of movies as everyone else! Fantastic list!
ReplyDeleteoh, Great picks here!!! (pix?) GWTW has shown up a few times, and Jesus Christ, Superstar! LOL! Good one. You know I've never seen Terms of Endearment?
ReplyDeleteI know. Wha whaaat?
Love movies, love this fest~ <3
You really do need to watch it. But bring loads of tissues.
DeleteOh, great list! I've seen all of these - I'm addicted to movies - and loved every single one.
ReplyDeleteYour taste is really varied from classics to three-hankie pics. I love that you have ones I haven't seen on any of the other blog-hoppers' posts. You're one-of-a-kind, Sheri! <3
ReplyDeleteGreat List. Go MATRIX I'm seeing that a lot.
ReplyDeleteThose little shadow people in Ghost get me every time. Creepy little devils (literally). Great list! :)
ReplyDeleteLegends of the Fall and Terms of Endearment are two of my favorites. I missed putting them on the list. I told Alex, picking 10 was way to hard. I forgot so many great movies.
ReplyDeleteI liked the Matrix, even though I didn't see the last movie in the Trilogy. I kind of think that the Matrix is similar to Sandra Bullock's movie The Net in that it represented people's fears about technology; at that point, the Internet was still relatively new and we were exploring a new world, so to speak.
ReplyDeleteGreat list! I love most of these.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great list! Ghost was such a great movie. It's been years since I've seen it, though.
ReplyDeleteGhost was such an amazing movie. Don't even get me started on the Unchained Melody scene (so romantic)... Thanks for sharing. Great movie list :)
ReplyDeleteSome great movies on this list! Dirty Dancing is one of my all time faves.
ReplyDelete-Vicki
Sounds like you go for big emotions and sweeping epics! I also haven't seen Ghost for about 20 years, but very memorable...
ReplyDeleteOoh, did you have to mention 20 years ago?? LOL (Feeling old...)
DeleteThanks for stopping by!
I believe that I have seen them all. You go for some real tear jerkers. I still, to this day, cannot watch Terms of Endearment without turning into a blubbering, teary, gross mess. Dying young did it to me as well. I had Ferris Bueller's Day off on my list, up until the last minute. It was so hard to narrow it to only ten. I love your diversified choices. Law Abiding Citizen was another favorite of mine, that did not make my list.
ReplyDeleteNice list, haven't seen them all but there are some gems in here!
ReplyDeleteMelissa - Sounds like we have similar tastes. I hear you about Terms... I'm a mess watching that one. And Dying Young was one of the first movies I watched as a teenager that hit me hard, made me contemplate life.
ReplyDeleteNW - Great observation! Very true...
Kyra - Thank you for saying so and for stopping by for a visit!
Daisy - Thanks! I think GWtW was one of the first movies that hooked with me romance and a snarky female lead. I still love Scarlet!
Matrix is awesome so is Leap Year, Cause i'm sorry when she kicks his POS car, and it starts to roll down the hill and he's screaming Oh baby! My Baby! I think that's so freaking funny. Or her Boyfriend gives her this box and she's expecting the big ring and she gets earrings she's like They're Earrings...oh...
ReplyDeleteYou have some great classic choices.
ReplyDeleteI really need to see Blood Diamond. I've heard such good things about it.
ReplyDeleteHey there! Your choice of movies certainly aren't in one bag. I didn't expect to like Blood Diamond, but I did. Leo finally made me like him as an actor. Legends of the Fall was amazing. Matrix a classic! Although I didn't really like Ghost that much. My wife, MIL and four daughters LOVED it. We all lived under the same roof when it came out. They still haven't stopped talking about it.
ReplyDeleteI love Blood Diamond, LoRT, Pride & Prejudice, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Black Hawk Down, & the original Underworld. I went to the movies all the time in middle school and high school -- maybe because my hometown has an amazing movie theater (AMC 30) and nothing else to do. I watched a Knight's Tale & Ten Things I Hate About You on repeat all the time.
ReplyDeletegreat list! Legend of the Fall almost made my list too... epic Brad Pitt. Every woman in the world fell in love with him after that stellar and steaming hot role. Matrix rocks too!
ReplyDeleteI think I've only seen GWTW on your list. Everything on my list was OLD, like from the silent and early sound era. The handful of relatively modern films were historical dramas, not the type of films I'd expect the average person to have heard about. I also had Ben-Hur on my list, but the 1925 version with handsome, talented Ramón Novarro.
ReplyDeleteis there no hotter movie than legends of the fall with brad???? i dare say no!! thanks for the reminder that he is still oh so cute!
ReplyDeleteGreat list! Love The Matrix.
ReplyDeleteHeather
Oh, how could I forget GHOST! Such a good movie. Enjoyed your list!
ReplyDeleteooh! Great list! I was named after Ashley Wilks from Gone with the Wind! :D
ReplyDeleteBlood Diamond was difficult to watch, but it was amazing. Great list. :3
