We're fortunate to have her here today, to share her wisdom, journey, and leave her splats in the Alleyway! She's sharing her YA novel TRIANGLES!
Hi Kimberly! Nice to see you. What initially inspired you to write this story?
My love for the island of Bermuda. It’s one of the safest, cleanest, nicest islands I’ve traveled to, and I’ve been to many islands in the Caribbean. The people are amazing, the island is fantastic, and the weather is beautiful. Plus, they have the Bermuda Triangle! I’ve cruised to Bermuda and stayed on the island several times. Also, I wanted to write something that hadn’t been done for the YA market, and the Bermuda Triangle seemed like a great idea!
I love the way you mentioned the Bermuda Triangle! You make it sound exciting, like a tourist destination instead of some mystery puzzling man for the last umpteen years. :) Let's give the readers the description of TRIANGLES.

A cruise ship. A beautiful island. Two sexy guys. What could possibly go wrong?
In the Bermuda Triangle—a lot.
Hoping to leave behind the reminders of her crappy life—her father's death years ago, her mother's medical problems, and the loser who's practically stalking her—seventeen-year-old Autumn Taylor hops on a ship with her sister for a little distraction. When she wakes up in the Bermuda Triangle, she fears she's gone nuts for more than one reason: that loser's suddenly claiming they're a happy couple... a hot guy is wrapping his arms around her and saying "Happy Anniversary"... and suddenly, she's full of bruises, losing her hair, and getting IV medication. Autumn visits the ship's doctor, hoping for a pill or a shot to make the craziness go away. Instead, she's warned that these "alternate realities" could become permanent.
She just has to ask herself one question—how the hell is she going to get out of this mess?
Did you have any specific method for developing this idea?
Not really. As ideas come to me, I stick them in an idea file on my computer. When I pick an idea to start writing about, I take that idea and expand on it. As a matter of fact, for Triangles, I had this in my file: BERMUDA TRIANGLE - girl on a cruise, goes through the triangle, something happens. That was it! From there, I developed the idea as I wrote it.
What's your favorite part of the story?
I love the parts where the guys fight over the main character. Those scenes are my favorite to write!
What can your fans expect from you next?
I just signed the contract for the companion novel, Parallel Triangles. It has the same theme with a different cast of characters going through the Bermuda Triangle!
Ooh...that's exciting and it sounds so good!! Best of luck with that. Thank you so much for being here.

I am not entering! But I wanted to say I loved this interview. I jotted down notes for a novel last year when I visited Bermuda -- I loved the island so much, and I can't wait until that one bubbles it's way up the To Be Written stack. I can't wait to read yours. It sounds exciting!
ReplyDeleteIsn't Bermuda amazing? I could live there! I've been there several times and cannot think of one bad thing to say about it! Hope you have fun writing yours like I had fun writing mine :)
