Point: my 3rd, our fifteen-year-old daughter, is one of the two who read well but would rather spend her time texting or watching a movie. However, she recently confided in me that she's found a genre of young adult lit she truly enjoys. And guess what??? It's romance with a splash of English society. WOOT! Thus, it feels like I've been waiting forever for Crystal's book to release in paperback. (Said daughter won't read on a Kindle. She wants to feel the paper in her hand. lol)
In the English society of 1768 where women are bred to marry, unattractive Alexia, just sixteen, believes she will end up alone. But on the county doorstep of a neighbor’s estate, she meets a man straight out of her nightmares, one whose blue eyes threaten to consume her whole world—especially when she discovers him standing over her murdered host in the middle of the night.
Crystal has asked each of her participants to answer this question: If you lived in a society where arranged marriages were a la mode, whom would you beg your parents to set you up with? Why?
Check out who others chose as their arranged spouse throughout the rest of the hop below!
Her nightmares become reality: a dead baron, red-eyed wraiths, and forbidden love with a man hunted by these creatures. After an attack close to home, Alexia realizes she cannot keep one foot in her old life and one in this new world. To protect her family she must either be sold into a loveless marriage, or escape with her beloved and risk becoming one of the Soulless.

This has taken a ton of thought. I am a romance sap, so said suitor needs to be passionate. I also don't mind a bit of eye candy. Can you really blame a girl?
I've never been big on celebrities and their too-fast, too-many-public-issues world. They're just too real for me. That leaves me with all the fictional gentlemen, dudes, studmuffins, and geekers I've fawned over throughout the years. In the end, as much as I enjoy that eye candy, I am the girl who values loyalty, trust, honesty, and integrity above all else. In my book, there is no one fictional male character who holds these to a greater degree than Mr. Darcy of Pride & Prejudice. He was absolutely my first love. ❤
And while you're at it, enter to win one of these great prizes!
AND, of course, share with me who you'd ask to be set up with!
Love Mr. Darcy. That's a great choice. And so excited for Crystal.
ReplyDeleteGreat answer! This was so much fun. I could hear the lift in your voice as you wrote about your daughter's new found love. Fantastic, Sheri!
ReplyDeleteDarcy it is! My goodness, that man has way too many admirers. I guess it's a good think he's fictional, eh? ;)
ReplyDeleteThat's cool your daughter is excited to read Crystal's book!
ReplyDeleteFun question! Your daughter should find lots to read in her new interest area, and I'm with her -- I need paper books in my hand.
ReplyDeleteI knew it before I even got to your blog that you picked Mr. Darcy. :)
ReplyDeleteA very classy choice!
ReplyDeleteGreat post.
Heather
Mr. Darcy. Swoon. The perfect choice.
ReplyDeleteGeez, one of these days I MUST read Pride & Prejudice! My choice is a brainiac type. Hahaha.
ReplyDeleteGreat choice, Sherry!
ReplyDeleteSecond choice of Darcy I've seen, and he's my bet for most selected. (Yes, I MIGHT be keeping score. LOL) I agree, this was harder for me than I imagined.
ReplyDeleteFunny. You probably should keep score.
DeleteA man who is passionate and is eye-candy is always a plus! ;) I just wonder how many people in total will pick Mr. Darcy. lol
ReplyDeleteI've never read Pride and Prejudice, though I know I really should one of these days. I was put off it after having the ending ruined by a show my little brother used to watch.
ReplyDeleteOh, Carrie-Anne, we must correct that. LOL (UGH, for the ending being ruined for you. But trust me, you'll love the entire story!)
DeleteGood question! I'd pick Mr. Knightly. So kind, smart, and he's got money to boot. ;)
ReplyDeleteOMG ... he was my second choice. Love him, too!
DeleteMr. Darcy is wonderful. But my heart belongs to Capt. Wentworth (Persuasion).
ReplyDeleteOoh, but that's a great one, too!
DeleteI chose Mr. Darcy, too!
ReplyDeleteLove,
Janie Junebug
You did? That's awesome! Great minds think alike, right?
DeleteRoarke from JD Robb's In Death series seems like a good choice!
ReplyDeleteLove the sound of the book - off to check it out :)
Ooh, another one I haven't heard of. #hangshead
DeleteYay for Mr. Darcy!!
ReplyDeleteMr. Darcy is a wonderful choice! Literary character are so much more interesting than real celebrity. :)
ReplyDeleteThat's what I think!
DeleteGreat choice!! Who doesn't love Mr. Darcy? : ) And I can totally relate to kids with different levels of interest in reading...story of my life as well! It is great when there is ONE that loves to read....right? : )

It really is. I wish I knew a way to give my other kids that same passion.
DeleteI know it probably isn't good to admit things like this, but I've never read P&P. Just not my thing - although it was one of the first books I loaded onto my Kindle when I got one a few years ago (apparently I had good intentions at some point!). As for the question about our kids - my oldest (now turning 13) is a great reader who finished the Harry Potter series by age 9 and has never looked back (LOVES fantasy). My youngest (7) started life with late speech development, became a reluctant reader, and is now going through a reading learning disability diagnosis. So you just never know - and read to them anyway!
ReplyDeleteerica
I totally understand the differences in children, Erica. My youngest has Apraxia of Speech. It was tough for him to start therapy at the young age of 22 months. But oddly enough, he's my main reader. Age ten now, that kid can put away an MG book a day. It's crazy. Yet my second child, now 17, would rather have his fingernails pulled out than read anything but a hockey mag. LOL
DeleteHI, Sheri,
ReplyDeleteSecond Darcy I've seen today... Terrific Lit. Guy to want... Such fun fest and CONGRATS to Crystal!
I honestly don't know how I would have survived without that story. It helped me to dream in my teens. Okay ... and even now. LOL
Deletehe shall make you his queen for sure!!
ReplyDeleteOkay, now I have blushing going on. *sighs* So, so dreamy...
DeleteI think lots of us write the men we would want to marry in our novels. Makes one think!
ReplyDelete......dhole
Good point. I think there's definitely something to your theory.
DeleteAh, Mr Darcy. I need to read P&P again. It's been a long while.
ReplyDeleteOMGosh. I think I read it - or watch one of the movies - at least once a year. Yeah, I'm kinda weird.
DeleteLots of Mr Darcy fans, today!
ReplyDeleteIt seems so. LOL I almost chose Mr. Knightly. Guess I have a 'thang' for the British. :)
DeleteI love that your daughter wants to FEEL a book in her hands, that is awesome! And yay for Crystal! Love this giveaway. As for me, no I could not survive an arranged marriage unless love developed.
ReplyDeleteMe, too. To be honest, I feel the same way. Not sure that will ever change.
DeleteYaY to see Crystal here!
ReplyDeleteIf my parents tried to arrange my marriage, I would've run away. Luckily, I did okay myself! :)
I am thrilled for Crystal and LOVE that your daughter wants to feel a real book. I have a kindle but I think I still prefer the real thing :)
ReplyDeleteMy daughter loves to read and will only read paper books also. I had the Divergent series on my Kindle and she refused to read them on it. She actually went out and bought them *gasp* with her own money. Crystal's book is great and I think my daughter would like it, too.
ReplyDeleteAwesome choice, and I'm right with you there on loving Mr Darcy. :)
ReplyDeleteGreat pick. I love Jane Austen's writing and many of her male leading characters are divine.
ReplyDeleteAh, Mr Darcy .... *sigh*
