MMGM aka Marvelous Middle-Grade Monday was created by Shannon Messenger to give middle grade reads the attention they deserve. I'm joining in, today. If you'd like to see more MG books, click HERE to follow other participants.
I have a series of books for you, today, on the recommendation of my ten-year-old son. After reading the first few chapters, he began bugging me to buy the rest of the series. He says, "The story is full of action and adventure. I really like how it's all about dragons. I can't stop reading."
So, I thought it might be a strong read to keep some of your kiddos busy during their summer break.
The seven dragon tribes have been at war for generations, locked in an endless battle over an ancient, lost treasure. A secret movement called the Talons of Peace is determined to bring an end to the fighting, with the help of a prophecy -- a foretelling that calls for great sacrifice.
Five dragonets are collected to fulfill the prophecy, raised in a hidden cave and enlisted, against their will, to end the terrible war.
But not every dragonet wants a destiny. And when the select five escape their underground captors to look for their original homes, what has been unleashed on the dragon world may be far more than the revolutionary planners intended . . .
A thrilling new series soars above the competition and redefines middle-grade fantasy fiction for a new generation!
Here are the other four books in the series:
Most of you know that I'm not a dragon fan. I don't have anything against dragons, but I don't have an attraction to them, either. However, my son is so enthralled with this story I've got to believe other kids his age will be, too.
I'm not drawn to dragon stories either, and I'm not generally into talking animal stories at all. But kids do love them. And I do like the Gregor the Overlander series, which has giant bats, rats, and cockroaches who all talk. So there's an exception to every rule. No dragons in that series though.
My daughter loved dragon stories when she was 8-12ish although, like you, they aren't for me. Sounds like a series of winners for those who love dragon fantasy!
Yay, Heather! And you know what? I totally thought of you when I wrote up this post. I know how much you enjoy reading/writing about dragons. Glad it helped!
The first thing I bought when I found out I was pregnant w/the kidlet was a stuffed dragon. =) I've seen these covers around and have always been drawn to them, it's nice to hear that they're good reads. Tell your kiddo thanks for the rec! =)
I haven't heard of these, but I love the covers!
ReplyDeleteI hadn't heard of them, either. And I'm not a big fan of animal MG main characters, but my son totally loves them. Who am I to argue that? LOL

ReplyDeleteOkay. Slap me. I haven't heard of that series, either. I swear I live under a rock.
DeleteI'm not into dragon tales and have only read one or two, but this looks good.
ReplyDeletePersonally, I'd never have picked this up. But my son loves the series. If it makes him want to read, then I'm thankful.
DeleteI love dragon stories. I ate up McCaffrey's Dragonriders of Pern series.
ReplyDeleteThanks! Another series I'll have to intro to my son.
DeleteI like dragon stories, but prefer human characters too. This sounds good though. Glad your son really liked the series.

DeleteOoh I love dragons.
ReplyDeleteVery eye catching covers, those...
I had no choice but to love dragons. My son read every dragon book that came out. We have a dragon shelf in our library and it sags a bit.
ReplyDeleteI'm not a huge fan of dragons. My older son was into them for a while and we both read Eragon but never got into the sequels.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I read that, too. Funny, I did it with my oldest as well. He read the next one, but I didn't. My bad.

ReplyDeleteOh yeah, this is a great series to keep them reading! My son and all his friends love these books, and I am rather fond of them myself!
ReplyDeleteReally? Maybe I should give it a try, then. I'm not a dragon fan, but my son just loves it. He can't get enough.
