Wistful YA~Meet Noll of NOBODY'S GODDESS by Amy McNulty
Wistful YA is my reoccurring spotlight, giving young adult literature center stage.
I LOVE meeting characters! It's part of reading. So today meet Noll, whose world might seem like a girl's paradise at first glance, but I have a feeling there's a ton more to her story then she lets on here.
Hi Noll! Before we share your story's blurb, show off its cover, and get to the great giveaway by your creator, why don't you tellthe audience a bit about yourself.
I'm from a village where all the men are masked until they earn the love of their goddesses. (A "goddess" is what we call the woman who is the object of a man's affections. There's one different woman for every man.) I'm already sixteen and I'm still nobody's goddess. And Jurij, the boy I have feelings for, will only ever love my sister, because he found the goddess in her. *slight pause*She didn't even like him, and he was my closest friend!
Oh wow... I'm so sorry. But now I'm curious about your village and the working dynamics. There must be someone keeping track of all this, someone in charge.
Sure. My village is surrounded by mountains. There's a castle beyond the woods where our lord lives, but he never comes down to visit us, even though we all say he's "always watching." Women aren't even allowed to look at his castle or the earth shakes!
Geez... Not sure I'd ever come visit. #NoOffense What about work? What would you like to do if you could do anything there?
Woodcarver, like my father and my friend, Alvilda. I'm already learning the trade from Alvilda.
That sounds pretty cool. Do you have a quirk or something that is just you?
I'm stubborn to a fault.
I think we all can hold that fault at times, and let's put it to the test. You can choose to be any fictional character. Who is it and why?
Katniss Everdeen because I love how she was a hero and stood up for the things most important to her.
Katniss is a great female heroine. Great aspirations! It was great to meet you, Noll. Thanks so much for leaving your signature in the Alleyway. And now to share a little more....
Description: In a village of masked men, magic compels each man to love only one woman and to follow the commands of his “goddess” without question. A woman may reject the only man who will love her if she pleases, but she will be alone forever. And a man must stay masked until his goddess returns his love—and if she can’t or won’t, he remains masked forever.
Seventeen-year-old Noll isn't in the mood to celebrate. Her childhood friends have paired off and her closest companion, Jurij, found his goddess in Noll’s own sister. Desperate to find a way to break this ancient spell, Noll instead discovers why no man has ever chosen her.
Thus begins a dangerous game between the choice of woman versus the magic of man. And the stakes are no less than freedom and happiness, life and death—and neither is willing to lose.

I love the story world set up, so much that I want a buy link... Although I'm not interested in living in Noll's world. No thanks.
ReplyDeleteThe earth shakes if a woman looks at his castle? I'm so curious that the land would be shaking non-stop. lol
