YA in the Alleyway is my revised meme to give young adult literature the spotlight it deserves. It also gives YA authors the opportunity to share their signature with the world! Feel free to join me any Wednesday.
As promised last week, I come to you today with a new young adult read! I became a fan of this author's work after reading her YA take on Sherlock Holmes daughter, Arabella, in BONESEEKER. I really enjoyed that book, and you can find my thoughts on it HERE if you're interested. On that note, here's a peek at her latest release.
THE REQUIEM RED
by Brynn Chapman
Publisher: Month9Books
Released: April 5, 2016
Pages: 300
Description: Patient Twenty-nine.
A monster roams the halls of Soothing Hills Asylum. Three girls dead. 29 is endowed with the curse…or gift of perception. She hears messages in music, sees lyrics in paintings. And the corn. A lifetime asylum resident, the orchestral corn music is the only constant in her life.
Mason, a new, kind orderly, sees 29 as a woman, not a lunatic. And as his belief in her grows, so does her self- confidence. That perhaps she might escape, might see the outside world.
But the monster has other plans. The missing girls share one common thread...each was twenty-nine's cell mate.
Will she be next?

runs strong in her family, as does the Asperger’s syndrome. Her writing
reflects her experience as a pediatric therapist and her interactions with
society’s downtrodden. In fiction, she’s a strong believer in underdogs and
happily-ever-afters. She also writes non-fiction and lectures on the subjects

Are you into the spooky and creepy of an asylum? What books or movies have you read/viewed with this setting?
I love spooky! Don't think I've read anything set in an asylum - unless you count Shutter Island (which was all kinds of spooky) which I didn't actually read but saw the movie.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I've always wanted to watch that one, but never have. I probably should. Maybe this summer. :)
DeleteCool lover shutter island as well
DeleteI love the cover. Wishing Brynn all the best. Thanks for giving us the heads up.
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome! I love the color palette of the cover. There's an elegance to it, yet still something creepy. :)
Deleteyes i love my cover as well. ive been very lucky that way
DeleteCongratulations, Brynn. Spooky is good. Sounds like a fascinating plot. Gorgeous cover too. Best of luck to you.

DeleteThis sounds like a delightful nail-biting experience. I'm getting it.
ReplyDeleteAsylums make for great settings.
ReplyDeleteSounds very suspenseful. And it's a beautiful cover.
ReplyDeleteRequiem Red sounds fascinating! Best of luck with the book.
ReplyDeleteWow, this sounds very spooky, and I'm not normally into spooky. The only book I can think of with a Victorian-type asylum setting is THE LOCKED GARDEN by Gloria Whelan.
ReplyDeleteOoh, I'll have to check that out for my summer reading! I haven't read this one, but I really did enjoy her other one - BONESEEKER. It had a creepy element to it, too. Plus, Sherlock was her dad. Kind of cool...
Deletehi. i toured a historical asylum twice...and was so fascinated it ended up being the setting for TWO books. Boneseeker 2, HERE WALK THE DEAD, out in october is also set in an asylum
DeleteLooks dark and mysterious. Congrats to Brynn.
