When I pick up a book, one of the first elements I look for is character. WHO is this story about? WHAT are they like? WOULD I want to know them in real life?
I'd like you to meet Myra and Jeremy, the main characters in Author Beverly McClure's Young Adult story - NOVEL ON HOLD.
Hey guys, it's great to have you here. Why don't you give the Alleywalkers a little bit of Myra and a little bit of Jer...
Sure, I'm Myra Gibson, sixteen years old, good daughter, perfectionist, everything must be in its place. At least I was a good daughter, until I discovered the secret.
Hey, Jeremy Carlyle here. I'm seventeen, a senior in high school, and Myra's boyfriend, or at least I was until I made a dumb mistake. Now she's not allowed to see me.
Ouch! But ... as a writer, I see a story here. So let's share your story blurb.
A paper found.
A secret revealed.
A girl's life changed forever.
Myra Gibson's life is a lie. For sixteen years her parents have kept their secret, but the adoption paper she discovers while cleaning the guest house tells the truth. As the past and present collide, Myra finally stands up for herself and begins a journey she may regret.

Gosh, that sounds serious. So Myra, then what's been your biggest challenge in life?
Myra. Biggest challenge? Accepting the truth about my life, that I'm not exactly who I thought I was; neither are my parents.
Jeremy?
My biggest challenge was learning that life is unfair, but we do the best we can because others, my mom, sister, and Myra, are there to help us.
Wow. So grown up. Let's lighten things up a bit. What do you really think of each other?
(Jeremy): Me first this time. I think Myra is just about perfect. She cares about others. She's honest. She's beautiful.
(Myra): Honest? Me? Did you happen to notice how many times I lied to my folks so we could go out? You're the honest one, Jeremy. You always wanted me to tell them. You said you didn't like sneaking around behind their backs. And beautiful? Do you need glasses, boy?
(Jeremy): I'm grinning. You also have a temper, Myra, though you don't show it often. And are you saying the kidnapping note I wrote your parents was honest?
(Myra): Haha! The note worked, didn't it? Dad, um Neil, thought it was clever. Mom, she wasn't so sure.
(Jeremy): Maybe one day your folks will accept me again.
Myra sighs. Maybe they'll accept what I plan to do too. Maybe not. But I have to do it anyway.
What's your biggest personal quirk?
(Myra): Being clean. Sweeping the driveway every time a car drives in and stirs up the dust. It's outside, right? It's supposed to have dirt on it. I'm sick.
(Jeremy): I'm not telling.
LOL. Wise guy... ;) One last thing: Is your creator more movie star, pro athlete, nature trail junkie, or bookworm?
(Myra): Our creator is more the nature trail junkie. She takes long walks, her camera always with her. She snaps pictures of clouds, flowers and wild critters. Once I saw a picture of a huge rattlesnake at least four feet long that she took. Luckily the thing was dead. It still gave me the heebie-jeebies.
(Jeremy): I want to add she's a pretty good photographer, and I should know cause I'm one of the best.
(Myra): You're not shy about bragging on yourself, are you, Jeremy?
(Jeremy): Not when I'm right.
Aw, it's been a hoot getting to know you both better. Thanks for stopping by and to Beverly for creating you!!

ReplyDeleteThat was such a fun interview and we really get to know the characters. Please let someone else win this. My TBR list is too big right now.
ReplyDeleteA fun interview and lovely way to meet Beverly's characters (and Beverly).
ReplyDeleteThe book sounds intriguing! Will spread the word!
ReplyDeleteHot chocolate hugs!
Myra here. Thanks, Sheri, for letting me share my story with your readers.
ReplyDeleteDitto me, (Jeremy).
Thank you, Sheri, for a fun interview. Sometimes teens exagerate a bit, but Myra and Jeremy are pretty good kids, most of the time. I enjoyed letting them talk. Thanks, Creepy, Natalie, Kittie, and Shelly for your nice comments. Beverly
It's a pleasure to have you and your creation here, Beverly!
DeleteLove the cover, and what an interesting twist! Congrats, Bev!
ReplyDeleteI know Beverly!
ReplyDeleteThat was a cute exchange. Kidnapping note? Wow.
Myra and Jeremy have GREAT Chemistry. They are also pretty mature for the ages. I like that too! They are believable. With flaws and all.... A clean freak. LOL. and a BOY of mystery.... Well done, Beverly!
ReplyDeleteYou also touched on a topic that is a REAL part of life. Discovery one is adopted opens up a world of conflict.
A secret... mine was pretty shocking. I learned my mom had been married once before. She never talked about it because she had the marriage annulled within the first two years. My brother had found a tiny wedding albumin with my much younger mom featured as the bride. She was only eighteen.
Thanks for featuring this fun interview, Sheri. I always enjoy character interviews!
I can tell Jeremy is my kind of character. :)
ReplyDeleteIt seems to me that Myra and Jeremy are perfect for each other. I hope her parents loosen up and let them see each other again. Fun interview! :)
ReplyDeleteThe two sure do seem to play well off the other
ReplyDeleteThanks, Catherine. The cover goes well with the story.
ReplyDeleteYeah, Alex. Jeremy is pretty creative. :)
You have an interesting story there, Michael. Sometimes we don't know everything about our parents or other family members.
I like Jeremy, too, Kelly. Seems like the guys in a book are usually my favorites.
Thanks, Lexa, and what Jeremy did wasn't really that bad. He's a good guy basically, just made a mistake as teens often do.
ReplyDeleteThey are quite a pair, Pat, at least I think so. :)
Such a fun interview! Congrats, Beverly!
ReplyDeleteHee hee hee. He's not telling. =) Loved this interview. What a fun dynamic!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Cherie. Jeremy and Myra were fun to write about.
ReplyDeleteThe teens really worked well together, Crystal, each with their own problems, yet trying to help the other. Thanks.
Great interview, Beverly. I read Myra & Jeremy's story & I'd just have to say, they get things mixed up. I think it's that Beverly that keeps throwing roadblocks into there lives. You've got to read it to believe it. Thanks, Sherry, for sharing about these 2 teens.
ReplyDeleteSo pleased to see Beverly here with her great book.
ReplyDeleteHaha. Yes, Janet. I tried to make life miserable for the teens. They kept figuring out ways to make things work. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks, clee. We had fun with Sheri's interview.
I love character interviews! What a fun couple. I can see depth just in these few words! Best of luck with the book. :D
ReplyDeleteThank you, Lisa.I think character interviews are a lot of of fun. Sometimes the characters surprise me with their answers. :)
DeleteVery cute! I love hearing your characters speak for themselves:-)
ReplyDeleteThank you, Susan. Myra and Jeremy definitely have their own opinions about life.
DeleteI love character interviews, and this was great.
ReplyDeleteA secret I learned as a teenager...I learned about a relative's death eleven years after it happened.
Myra here: Thanks, Medeia. Ditto what Myra said. Jeremy.
DeleteThat is a long time, Medeia. Sometimes I guess adults want to protect their children or perhaps just don't think to tell them.
And the winner of a paperback copy of Life on Hold is Michael Di Gesu.. Congratulations. An email has been sent.
ReplyDeleteA huge thanks to everyone that left such great comments.
I know, I know. I'm way late with this. Edits have been taking up my time, and I'm just slow. Have a great week, all.
