Ditching a JOB ~ A to Z challenge

It's Featherbrained Friday, again! And within the A to Z Challenge, it's J time. So here's something to ponder: Ever ditched a JOB. Yes, I mean a J.O.B. Work. Like in high school when there was a cool party to go to and you just had to be there? Or have you ever gone to a job interview and prayed to high Heaven you didn't get it?

ButtonYeah. I did that last one. Wanting to still be a stay-at-home-mom with my two teeny boys at the time (we ended up having 2 more minions, lol), I applied for the bookkeeper's job at a soon-to-be-open local restaurant. Why? Because I could make my own hours, which consisted of only fifteen to twenty, and I could do most of them from home. Sweet! But I hate numbers. Any hoot, I got the job before I walked out of the interview.

Second for today is this: I sometimes participate in Month9Books' regular Friday cover reveals. I stretched a bit to rep the LETTER J, but I think it works. So take a peek at this:

Call Me Grim

Call Me Grim by Elizabeth Holloway

Publication date: November 11, 2014
Publisher: Month9Books, LLC.

Description:
The truck should have turned Libbi Piper into a Libbi Pancake -- and it would have, too, if Aaron hadn't shown up and saved her life. The problem? Aaron's the local Grim Reaper... and he only saved Libbi's life because he needs someone to take over his job. Now, Libbi has two days to choose between dying like she was supposed to, or living a lonely life as Death Incarnate. Talk about a rock and a hard place.
And the choice goes from hard to sucktastic when her best friend shows up marked: condemned as a future murderer. Libbi could have an extra week to stop the murder and fix the mark... but only if she accepts Aaron's job as Reaper, trapping herself in her crappy town forever, invisible and inaudible to everyone except the newly dead. But, if she refuses? Her best friend is headed straight for Hell.

  1. I'm glad you got the bookkeeping job! I was lucky to stay home with mine until they were each over a year old. Those days never come back round again. ;-) I'm out enjoying the A to Z. :-)

    1. So true. And after my third child was born, I completely stayed home - well, if you don't include running the kiddos everywhere. 'Course, then we had a fourth ... #slamsheadondesk

  2. Cool cover.
There were a few jobs that after I got them, I wish I hadn't!

  3. Yep, the 'j' tie-in totally works. The cover is gorgeous and the book sounds great! Happy Friday.

  4. Oh yes. I ditched and got fired. Not a good choice on my part, but I learned a great lesson. I never ditched on what I'd said I'd do without a very good reason. . .even a note from my doctor. :-)

  5. Thankfully I never really had to do too much of the 9-5 think, BUT there were many INSANE photographers I certainly would've loved to ditch after a torment session with them. Some of them are truly psychotic.

    1. Oh, geez, I can only image. Thus: reason I never agreed to model. Was asked when I was younger, but felt my aversion to having my picture taken would probably be a hindrance. LOL Plus, I'd totally tick of the photographers.

  6. I may have taken a sick day without really being sick but that is the extent of my ditching a job. Love the book cover and the story sounds great. I wish Elisabeth tons of luck!

  7. Yep, I ditched a summer job during college. Professor scared the crap out of me and it just got to be too much. I also interviewed for a job at Fermilab and was very glad I'd already taken another job when they called me. Part of the interview is purposefully rude to make sure you can handle the PhDs dumping on the lowly BS degrees. And I didn't want to live in Chicago!

    1. Sucks about that professor. Not stereotyping here, but there sure are some creepers out there.

  11. Thanks for hosting the cover reveal! <3
There are too many times to count that I played hooky from work. All of them years ago, mind you, but still...

    1. Haha ... hooky. I just love that word. You're so welcome about the cover reveal. It's my pleasure. Gorgeous cover, BTW. And if you're interested, we could do an interview or something on Writer's Alley. Just let me know and I can send you links to my interview docs.

  12. There's been two jobs that I quit after three days- one at a factory in summer(after I dripped hot glue all over my hand...ouch) & the other a maid in a hotel. That job was hard and it also didn't help when my first room there was blood on the pillow. =/ And congrats to Elizabeth on a very nice cover!

  14. I've never been in a situation where I wished not to get a job I've applied for! But it's great that you got the book keeping job even if you knew you didn't want it - you must have done a great interview! Yay!

    Take care

    1. Yeah, I guess. Either that or the other applicants were realllllly bad. LOL

(Sorry for my late response. I've been finishing up the 3rd draft of my MG novel and its synopsis. Grr... I hate writing synopsis'.)

      Have a wonderful day!

  15. I'm the bloody QUEEN of ditching jobs! :) Usually jobs within the house but yeah, I left companies who paid me well but didn't treat me right and never regretted it. Life is too short to wait for the end of workweek to start living it!

  16. Yikes! What an amazing blurb and fun concept!

So wait, are you working now then, or just reminiscing? I've had an interview or two like that, but typically I knew before I got to the on-site interview. That, or I turned down the job offer. But hey, if you can work from home...

  17. Looooove the cover!!!!
And love how you let your heart guide you and left the job out from the interview. I ditched my job recently. Not because I wanted to but knew it was the right thing to do. It was the most hardest decision of my life. I had been a hair stylist for twenty years at the same place.

  18. Call Me Grimm looks tasty. I had a job interview for being the theater technical director of a private high school. I got hives thinking about getting that job. Thank goodness it never panned out. Low pay - massive high expectation.

    1. Yeah, the whole hives thing is a dead giveaway. LOL

      Thank you for stopping by!

  19. I feel like I'll ditch a job in the future to look for better things. I've moved on before, and always to better things.

    Great book feature.
