A book is a vaction from reality. You can win a sword fight without knowing how to duel, you can visit the Arctic without leaving home and have an extravagant dinner without paying a dime. And through writing, you make your dreams happen, bring out stories and ideas from inside yourself that you can then pass along and share.

Now for some writing quotes? Well, as a writer and lover of quotes, I'm seriously inspired by Pat Mora. In particular a letter she wrote entitled "To Gabriela, A Young Writer." Here's a few gems:
"Wretches can write well while saints produce pedestrain passages."
"I write because I'm curious. I'm curious about me. Writing is a way of finding out how I feel about anything and everything."
"Do you know the quotation that says learning to write is like learning to ice skate? You must be willing to make a fool of yourself."
"Writers write. They don't just talk about writing just as dancers don't just talk about dancing. They do it because they love it and because they want to get better and better. They practice and practice to loosen up just as you practiced and practiced when you were learning to talk. And because you practiced, you don't talk the way you did when you were three."

Lots of great quotes listed (particularly Plath quote) . . . will choose another route. Here is a passage (i.e., quote) from last book I read.
"It was something small he remembered his own father doing. Undivided attention and unbroken eye contact even with the smallest child. It had made him feel like he was the smartest, most important boy in the world."

I think quotes are so fun! My favorite... hmmm. Last summer, I was volunteering at a prom for senior citizens and was talking to this old lady. Everyone was going to get their pictures taken and she said:
ReplyDelete"You wanna know something, girly? You see how I'm sitting here all by myself while everyone else is out getting their picture taken? Yeah, that's because my other half isn't here. And I don't need a picture without him. That's where you gotta make sure you pick the right guy. A man you're completely compatible with. I've been with my hubby 62 years. && when I told him I wanted to come down here tonight, he told me to go by myself. Make sure you pick the boy who will always be there for you even when you're an old lady like me. Don't fall for the cutie who will sit up in the room watching baseball rather than go dancing with you."
I don't know her name. && I'll likely never see her again. But, there isn't a day that goes by that I don't think of her words. They've inspired me so much and I'd definitely consider it my favorite thing, and the most important thing, anyone has ever said/quoted to me. :)

Great giveaway. I don't have a quote, but I love to read and love books because I'm a busy mom of three and getting lost in a book helps me to destress and let's me leave reality behind for a little bit and live extroadinary lives through characters. It's given me something that's mine and mine alone and on the day's when all I hear are mommy and honey, I find myself putting the kids to bed early, shutting the t.v. off and unwinding with a book
