"Think out of the box...think out of the box...."
Oh, sorry. I didn't see you there. Yeah, you caught me talking to myself again. I suppose I should share. I'm disappointed, befuddled, but surprisingly not stuck in the muck of my muddle. Some of you have heard about the amazing online conference, WriteOnCon, beginning this week. Um...if you haven't, go HERE.
Well, I'm at a crossroads with my current passion, MARKED BEAUTY. I'm so close to nailing this thing, but alas...I'm not quite there yet. So what does this mean? It means I won't be submitting my manuscript, query, or synopsis during the conference. I'm boo-hooing it. Let me pout for a moment.
'K, thanks. I'm better.
But that's not all. The hubs made a slight miscalculation when he scheduled his vacation. See, he's the boss. He can take his vacation whenever he wants, but he's a selfless dude and always waits for his employees to schedule their weeks off. Basically, he was supposed to have this passed week off. He didn't. He has next week--yup, the week of the conference--and we have major plans. So I'm going to do my best to check in to WriteOnCon and gorge on whatever info I can, but you probably won't be interacting with me. Poop.
During all of this discovery last week, I revisited my MG series, new WIP,and began outlining. (We'll discuss outlining in a few weeks. Anyone up for it?) I'm desperately attempting to think out of the box, as I outline. I went seeking some inspiration, and actually found some. Check this out:
Sure, that's a great ad. But really, wouldn't it be interesting if dog's had dentures? What about manicures or pedicures? What if there was a world were dogs sunbathed, had soothing mudbaths, or shopped for three-inch stiletto heels?? Hear what I'm saying?
out of the box...
What do you think? HOW far are you willing to think out of the box? Have you already??
Don't feel bad about not having anything to submit. I've seen so many contests, etc. that I couldn't take advantage of for this reason too.
ReplyDeleteJust see what you can of the conference. That's all I can do too because I work.
Sheri, If the timing wasn't right for you, then that just means there's something awesome in store for you at a future time, when a confluence of manuscript, agent, and publishing niche just falls together!
ReplyDeleteI thought we could enter our queries for feedback on the forum once it opens tomorrow. There's a thread for wip, which is where I'll be posting my first 5 pages. I posted my query last night on the practice thread. People have read it, but no one's commented. Wow, was it really that bad? :(
ReplyDeleteMy teenage niece and newphew are visiting my parents this week. Which means--'cause I want to spend time with them and pick their teenage brains for writing purposes--that I won't be as available for WriteOnCon as I had though. Sucks doesn't it? Hope you have a chance to participate in some of it. Fortunately most of it we can read whenever. :D
I live outside of the box:)
ReplyDeleteHmm, I can't really participate in WOC live either, with work and kids and so forth, so I'm really glad all the content will be archived for later.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your trip!
WriteOnCon will be amazing, but the best part is that much of it will be there if you can't logon in real time. Enjoy your vacation time and we'll miss you!
ReplyDeleteMarissa
I hope you get in some WriteOnCon time. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteJust wanted to say hello! I stumbled across your blog the other day and have definitely enjoyed what I've read so far.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry you won't get to check in on the Con, but I hope you have a good vacation!
I gotta get over to the CON today! I wish I didn't have to work - ARGH!
