Could U Have Survived Arranged Marriages?

For those of you who have children or have close-knit relationships with children, how many of those kiddos don't like to read? As most of you know, I have four of my own kids--two have no issues reading, but would rather do something else, one who had difficultly learning to read, while my youngest is a reading marathon kid. LUV!!!

Point: my 3rd, our fifteen-year-old daughter, is one of the two who read well but would rather spend her time texting or watching a movie. However, she recently confided in me that she's found a genre of young adult lit she truly enjoys. And guess what??? It's romance with a splash of English society. WOOT! Thus, it feels like I've been waiting forever for Crystal's book to release in paperback. (Said daughter won't read on a Kindle. She wants to feel the paper in her hand. lol)

In the English society of 1768 where women are bred to marry, unattractive Alexia, just sixteen, believes she will end up alone. But on the county doorstep of a neighbor’s estate, she meets a man straight out of her nightmares, one whose blue eyes threaten to consume her whole world—especially when she discovers him standing over her murdered host in the middle of the night.

Her nightmares become reality: a dead baron, red-eyed wraiths, and forbidden love with a man hunted by these creatures. After an attack close to home, Alexia realizes she cannot keep one foot in her old life and one in this new world. To protect her family she must either be sold into a loveless marriage, or escape with her beloved and risk becoming one of the Soulless.

And as a thank you to all of you, Crystal's publisher is offering a $2.00 coupon until February 14th at this Book LINK, using this COUPON CODE: LQJM3F84.

Crystal has asked each of her participants to answer this question: If you lived in a society where arranged marriages were a la mode, whom would you beg your parents to set you up with? Why?

This has taken a ton of thought. I am a romance sap, so said suitor needs to be passionate. I also don't mind a bit of eye candy. Can you really blame a girl?

I've never been big on celebrities and their too-fast, too-many-public-issues world. They're just too real for me. That leaves me with all the fictional gentlemen, dudes, studmuffins, and geekers I've fawned over throughout the years. In the end, as much as I enjoy that eye candy, I am the girl who values loyalty, trust, honesty, and integrity above all else. In my book, there is no one fictional male character who holds these to a greater degree than Mr. Darcy of Pride & Prejudice.
He was absolutely my first love.

  3. Darcy it is! My goodness, that man has way too many admirers. I guess it's a good think he's fictional, eh? ;)

  4. That's cool your daughter is excited to read Crystal's book!

  5. Fun question! Your daughter should find lots to read in her new interest area, and I'm with her -- I need paper books in my hand.

  6. I knew it before I even got to your blog that you picked Mr. Darcy. :)

  7. Mr. Darcy. Swoon. The perfect choice.

  8. Geez, one of these days I MUST read Pride & Prejudice! My choice is a brainiac type. Hahaha.

  9. Second choice of Darcy I've seen, and he's my bet for most selected. (Yes, I MIGHT be keeping score. LOL) I agree, this was harder for me than I imagined.

  10. A man who is passionate and is eye-candy is always a plus! ;) I just wonder how many people in total will pick Mr. Darcy. lol

  11. I've never read Pride and Prejudice, though I know I really should one of these days. I was put off it after having the ending ruined by a show my little brother used to watch.

    1. Oh, Carrie-Anne, we must correct that. LOL (UGH, for the ending being ruined for you. But trust me, you'll love the entire story!)

  19. I know it probably isn't good to admit things like this, but I've never read P&P. Just not my thing - although it was one of the first books I loaded onto my Kindle when I got one a few years ago (apparently I had good intentions at some point!). As for the question about our kids - my oldest (now turning 13) is a great reader who finished the Harry Potter series by age 9 and has never looked back (LOVES fantasy). My youngest (7) started life with late speech development, became a reluctant reader, and is now going through a reading learning disability diagnosis. So you just never know - and read to them anyway!

    1. I totally understand the differences in children, Erica. My youngest has Apraxia of Speech. It was tough for him to start therapy at the young age of 22 months. But oddly enough, he's my main reader. Age ten now, that kid can put away an MG book a day. It's crazy. Yet my second child, now 17, would rather have his fingernails pulled out than read anything but a hockey mag. LOL

If my parents tried to arrange my marriage, I would've run away. Luckily, I did okay myself! :)

  27. I am thrilled for Crystal and LOVE that your daughter wants to feel a real book. I have a kindle but I think I still prefer the real thing :)

  28. My daughter loves to read and will only read paper books also. I had the Divergent series on my Kindle and she refused to read them on it. She actually went out and bought them *gasp* with her own money. Crystal's book is great and I think my daughter would like it, too.
