The Importance of Gratitude For A Writer

I found this video the other day, and thought of all my writer friends out there - those I converse with daily, those on occasion, and those I've yet to meet. If there is one element of the writing life that unites us it's the sense of unease about a project, the publishing market, and our careers as storytellers. Even the most successful of authors have these moments of self-doubt and blurred reason.

Listen to this video. It's short. I've decided to listen to it once every day for the next month and see how I feel at the end. Feel free to join me and we can release our observations together during my It's All About Gratitude Blog Hop. I haven't hosted a blog hop in a long time, so I thought this might be fun as well as helpful to us and other writers. Sharing our writerly wisdom is always a good thing, which I'm thinking will lead us to more happiness and gratitude. And isn't that the point?

The hop will run from March 3 - 5. Post any of those three days - using this badge and linking back to this list - and tell us about what you learned about yourself over the course of the month. Did it help you? How do you plan on implementing your findings? Just signup with Mr. Linky below. Of course, spreading the word would be greatly appreciated!

How happy do you feel on a daily basis? How often do you consciously think about it?

  1. Gratitude is a great idea. Most people think luck is what they need, but it is better to think of blessings. I often feel I'm blessed and I'm thankful for what great things I have, although others may think it is not a lot. I'm going to see how I'm fixed at this time in March.

  2. Such a great video and so many good ideas on how to be happier. No matter what we all have things to be thankful for. I signed up for the blog hop and will include a short post with my author interview scheduled.

    1. Awesome! I felt after the holidays and rush of January trying to get back to some normalcy, the lull of February might need a little kick in the pants. :)

      Thanks for spreading the word!

  3. I'm pretty fortunate in that contentment is a pretty natural state for me, but I think everyone could benefit from counting their blessings on a day to day basis. It really is so important.

  4. Gratitude is a great thing to show on a daily basis. When you stop to think about it, there's so much to be grateful for.

  5. Such a wonderful idea! I'm going to have to come back later and check out the video, but I am definitely in the mindset that gratitude makes everyone's world a lot brighter :)

  6. Gratitude helps perk me up on those days I'm feeling blue, definitely. I'm pretty happy on a daily basis, but not always every moment of each day! I get annoyed when I have to wash dishes for instance, lol. But then I remember how blessed I am to have dirty dishes to wash because that means I have good, healthy food in my belly.

I always liked this saying that Charles Ingalls often repeated during hard times in the Little House books: There's no great loss without some small gain. It's good to remember that and look for the silver lining.

Happy reading and writing! from Laura Marcella @ Wavy Lines

    1. That is a great Ingalls quote! I'd totally forgotten about it. It's so, so true. Silver linings are always there. Our sight for the gold sometimes blinds us, though.

  7. Feeling grateful is a good way to be happy. Focusing on others means we aren't focused on our own problems.

    1. Yeah. And all that can get in the way of our progress both as people and writers.

    1. Thanks for spreading the word! Reminding ourselves of what we do have clears our view of what we've yet to attain.

  13. That's a great video! I'm lucky - as a teacher I get to be surrounded by kids and their enthusiasm all day. It's a great job! I love the point about forgiveness in the video - so important to let things go!

  14. An attitude of gratitude is something I've been putting into practice with each day for some time now. I must say, it makes my days so much better knowing how blessed I am in all the various facets of my life, even in the far-from-perfect corners.

    1. That's great to know! I know I'm thankful for elements of my life, but don't think I consciously think about it each day. Hoping this helps!

  17. Happiness is always desired, and I do believe it starts with gratitude--appreciating what you have, not trying to get MORE stuff all the time. Thanks, Sheri.

  18. My silly old computer won't load the video yet but it sounds wonderful! I actually do often think of the things I'm thankful for in my life. I've been through things I'm glad are over, come further than I thought I might, still have dreams that need achieving and definitely can see how some things COULD have worked out but, thank God, they didn't. Whew! We all really have a lot to be thankful for!
