IWSG~What's Eating Your Writing Time?

It's been an eventful few weeks. Eventful meaning all that's eaten up my writing (and blogging) time. Granted, some of it is justified.

In case you've never seen a beach in Maine, here's
Old Orchard Beach or better known as #OOB.
We took a much needed family vacation last week. Walked the beach, did some reading, and hung out with my younger brother's family. The week prior was eaten up by preparing our two oldest sons for college. And this week, thus far, is being gobbled up by two funerals. I was able to eek in some editing/writing during that previous week to prepare my MG manuscript for submission.

Me & the hubs being silly.
That leads me to more of this week's blogging time being already occupied. I'm subbing, so I might not be around a ton. My brain is also starting to ponder marketing ideas for my YA release next fall. But that will wait. I've been so swamped that I never even released my IWSG post. What the???? I've never missed before, so I'm hoping this boatload of wisdom I'm sharing counts. ;)

Basically: What eats most of your writing time? I'm talking about scheduled writing time. Do you find yourself distracted? If so, by what? That's my IWSG fear - I become so distracted by whatever that I lag myself out. Yup, just used that phrase and I actually like it.

The purpose of the IWSG is to share and encourage, posting on the first Wednesday of each month. You'll find writer doubts and concerns without fear of appearing foolish or weak. Support and a common understanding spread throughout the group as many fellow writers can relate. Feel free to JOIN in anytime.

  1. Don't worry, I won't kick you out of the group for being late.
    Sorry about the funerals.
Gatherings and church events seem to be sucking up a lot of my time right now. Not complaining, but it seems there has been multiple things every week this summer.

    1. I don't go often anymore. Well, I never actually went often. Some of my family lives in the Portland area, so when I was a kid and we'd visit we always stopped at OOB and/or Funtown. Maybe we can plan a reading/writing day there next summer.

  4. At the moment, house work and cooking, though to be fair, this is one tough week as Hubs is away in Africa. Otherwise, lack of inspiration - I've got bad days when I can't get much done (by which I mean I write, but discard...) I don't watch TV and I only read late at night when I'm too tired to write anyway, so most days, there won't be anything (but myself, lol) standing between me and the writing... Hope you had fun on your vacay!

  5. Well, um, my mom passed away a couple of weeks ago. That trumped everything else. I just posted about my experience over on my blog.

  6. For me, writing when inspired is never a problem. My family might complain loudly when they can't get me off the laptop, but one way or another, I find the time -- even if it's ten minutes here and twenty minutes there. If the words are coming, they're coming -- and look out!

Lack of inspiration is my Waterloo. I know I'm supposed to sit down and write, inspired or not. But when the words aren't dancing in front of me, everything and anything takes precedence. I'll even clean the house to get out of "writing time."
