IWSG~Mount Katahdin & Genres

Here we are at our third IWSG post of the year. Crazy, right?

I've decided to veer from our optional question for a minute to share a little of my recent snowmobiling weekend in Maine.

This is MOUNT KATAHDIN

Here's a few interesting facts.

The trails were like highways. Amazing!

Lastly, here we are in front of Mount Katahdin.

This IWSG optional question is:  Everyone has a favorite genre or genres to write. But what about your reading preferences? Do you read widely or only within the genre(s) you create stories for? What motivates your reading choice?

I tend to gravitate to romance and/or character based stories and also middle grade fantasy, adventure, and coming of age stories - all are what I write. But I'm always open to reading any story if it's well-written and enticing. I also like to read articles and short stories that are completely out of my norm. Sometimes I purposefully pick up books like that as well, using them to challenge myself through content, structure, craft, and technique. I always learn something knew when I do that, so I'd totally recommend it.

One last thing, I'd love for you to meet the newest member of our family - ASHER! He's a nine-week-old German Shepherd puppy and new little brother to our current two-year-old GSD Sadie.

Have an amazing month, everyone!

    What a great looking pup.
I love reading a wide variety of genres. I posted for IWSG day today. My post includes a new book by a friend, a note about a free book next week, a tweet about a query contest (LGBTQ romance this round), and a quick message about April Blogging from A to Z Challenge.

  11. The pictures are great, but I'll admit I'm getting a bit tired of winter and am ready to see the grass and flowers again. The snowmobiling part must have been pretty fun, though.

    1. Yeah, I totally hear you on wanting warmer weather. But this winter has been strange here in Maine. We haven't had nearly the amount of snow we usually do. This was my second snowmobile excursion this season. But I am excited to get the boat on the lake come warmer weather! Thanks so much for dropping by and for co-hosting this month!

  13. So here I am at last. I've tried to post a comment on your blog several times, but it didn't let me in. New browser seemed to do the trick. Love the snowy scenes, since I'm snow deprived where I live. Thanks so much for those. Love Asher without ever petting him. He's a great addition to your family.

  17. Hi Sheri - amazing looking snowmobile trail you had ... great change of scenery! I want to read educative books ... but they take time to absorb ... I rarely read fiction - but enjoy mysteries: also not often read at the moment. Asher looks delightful - he'll be a great addition ... all the best - Hilary

  20. What beautiful photos! Absolutely stunning! Gosh, I wish I could talk my husband into snowmobiling. Maine is gorgeous. I've never been there in the wintertime, only summer. And my husband and I tried to make it up Mt. Katahdin to the end/beginning of the A.T. We've taken our five kids on many portions of the A.T. through the years. LOVE the new pup! All best to you, my dear!
