On this NATIONAL HOLIDAY, so near and dear to so many, let us pause and remember those who have made the most poignant of sacrifices: their lives. May we also keep in our thoughts those who are serving our country today, ensuring safety for future generations.
HERE'S A POEM I FOUND.
(Credited to the unknown author.)
My father was in the Naval Air and served two terms in Vietnam. He returned, but many of his fellow comrades--friends--did not. I am grateful for the sacrifice he chose to risk and to his friends who didn't make it home. Today, I will show that gratitude by sharing a beautiful day with family and friends on their behalf.
How will you show your appreciation today?
My father and husband both served in the Army. Fortunately, my father was in Germany in a time of peace. Hubby was a peace keeper in Bosnia. I am among the lucky that these two brave men made it home.
ReplyDeleteI have no grand plans to show my appreciation - like a parade or visiting graves, but I plan to reflect periodically on the sacrifices that others have made for my freedoms.
Your father sounds like a great hero. Enjoy your national holiday.
ReplyDeleteGreat post, and I'm thankful we have a day dedicated to these courageous men and women. I have a lot of family in the military too, including two very young cousins over in afghanistan at the moment. I wish I were home right now:( Enjoy your day with your family!
ReplyDeleteSheri, what a beautiful post. That poem gave me chills. Your dad is a hero, and I can only imagine what it was like for him when he lost friends.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by my blog and sharing his story.
This is beautiful. Thank you for sharing with us. I have so much respect and admiration for your father and others like him, who have kept this country safe.
ReplyDeleteHappy Memorial Day.
Beautifully written. Enjoy the day.
